Game Consoles Hacking Now Legal?

Thursday, December 7th, 2006
FromWhatIHeard.com - Game Consoles Hacking Now Legal?I know that many of you game consoles owners are bending the rules a little bit, and have installed a modchip. If you didn’t know, these hacks were illegal, at least until this December. In some parts of the globe, people are more understanding of games, and
will make game consoles modchips legal. This happened in the land Down Under, where amendments to the Australian copyright laws are expected to pass this week. These amendments will make legal to mod your console and play games without any region restriction.Back in October of 2005, Sony Computer Entertainment lost a High Court case against mod-chip supplier Eddy Stevens, which lasted for almost three years, according to australianit.news.com. Sony wanted to outlaw the modchips by interpreting parts of the Copyright Act with technological prevention measures to include access control measures in its consoles. The Australian federal government was expected to amend provisions of the Copyright Act dealing with TPMs to make modchips illegal as part of its Free Trade Agreement with the United States.Whatever they decide, game console modders will still have a job. There will always be kids who prefer modding their console so that they can play games outside their region. I guess European and Australian gamers are more likely to mod their consoles than Japanese or US gamers, because game titles always come later in their regions. There also is a special category of gamers who mod their consoles, the ones that play pirated games. Yeah, it’s much cheaper to download a PS game via torrent websites than to buy one. I don’t advise you to do this, as I must inform you that doing so is considered stealing, therefore illegal.Another great article from Softpedia. Those lucky Australians!

NASA plans to build moon base?

Tuesday, December 5th, 2006
FromWhatIHeard.com - NASA plans to build moon base? NASA has announced it plans to build a permanently occupied base on the moon, most likely at the lunar north pole. The habitat will serve as a science outpost as well as a testbed for technologies needed for future travel to Mars and construction will follow a series of flights to the moon scheduled to begin by 2020.NASA’s associate administrator for exploration, Scott “Doc” Horowitz, told reporters of the plans in a teleconference from the Johnson Space Centre in Houston on Monday.”We’re going for a base on the moon,” he said.Plans for what the base will look like and what astronauts would do there are yet to be determined, and NASA has not projected a date when the base would go into operation. The moon’s polar sites are preferred to equatorial regions because of more moderate temperatures and longer periods of sunlight, which is critical for the solar-powered electrical systems NASA plans to develop.Eventually, nuclear power may be used to augment or replace the solar energy systems.Scientists also suspect the poles have resources such as hydrogen, ice and other materials that could be used for life support.

NASA deputy administrator Shana Dale says the plans are exciting.

“We don’t know as much about the polar regions,” she said.

The United States had already announced plans to develop new spacecraft to travel to the moon and land on its surface for the first time since the last Apollo flight there in 1972.

It also plans to provide a communications system linking Earth and the moon, but NASA does not plan to go to the moon alone.

The United States will look for international and commercial partners to share the expense and possibly provide components such as additional power systems, living quarters and resources for surface travel on the moon.

NASA is not expecting a budget increase to pay for the program.

Rather, it will transition funds currently being used to support the space shuttle into the moon exploration program as the shuttle fleet is phased out.

The shuttles are set to retire in 2010 and by that time NASA plans to have finished building the space station, leaving the moon initiative as a successor to both programs.

NASA receives about $16 billion a year.

Countries that already have been working with NASA to develop its so-called Global Exploration Strategy are Australia, Canada, China, Europe, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, India, Italy, Japan, Russia, South Korea and Ukraine.

This article is from abc.net.au

That is pretty incredible, to think we are close to actually building a base on the moon. 2020 is a long time away though, we’ll see what happens!

Nicolas Cage talks about Ghost Rider and National Treasure 2!

Saturday, December 2nd, 2006
FromWhatIHeard.com - Nicolas Cage talks about Ghost Rider and National Treasure 2

Actor Nicolas Cage talks about a possible sequel and National Treasure 2!

At a recent event at Hollywood Forever Cemetery for Sony’s upcoming film Ghost Rider, we had a chance to sit down with the film’s star Nicolas Cage and discuss a possible sequel to the film, as well as National Treasure 2.

In order to save his dying father, young stunt cyclist Johnny Blaze (Cage) sells his soul to Mephistopheles and sadly parts from the pure-hearted Roxanne Simpson (Eva Mendes), the love of his life. Years later, Johnny’s path crosses again with Roxanne, now a gogetting reporter, and also with Mephistopheles, who offers to release Johnny’s soul if Johnny becomes the fabled, fiery Ghost Rider, a supernatural agent of vengeance and justice. Mephistopheles (Peter Fonda) charges Johnny with defeating the despicable Blackheart, Mephistopheles’ nemesis and son, who plans to displace his father and create a new hell even more terrible than the old one.

You mentioned if the story to Ghost Rider 2 was good you would consider doing a sequel? Do you have any idea where you see that going?

Nicolas Cage: Well, I think, there’s a line in the movie somewhere where Johnny Blaze says to the police force that he really admires the job that they do, and that when he finishes his stunt cycle career, he intends to apply his skills as a motorcycle policeman. So I could see Johnny Blaze as a superbike cop.

You have a lot projects that you’re attached too, can you clarify where some of them stand?

Nicolas Cage: I don’t know exactly what the next film will be but it’s looking like National Treasure 2. It’s being written as we speak. The hope is that it’s going to be happening. It deals with Abraham Lincoln and Confederate gold; the assassination. It’s interesting stuff. What I like about the National Treasure potential as a series, is that it deals with history, and it’s also entertaining. That’s always a good thing. There are worse things to do than to stimulate young people’s minds about history as you’re entertaining them.

Everyone’s still attached from the first film?

Nicolas Cage: Yeah.

What about Sean Bean?

Nicolas Cage: I’m not sure how it’s going to work just yet.

Ghost Rider opens February 16, 2007 from Columbia Pictures.

This is from an article found on MovieWeb.com. Great interview and news, I cant wait to see both films!
