My office recently started using some self assessment software. I really don’t know what it’s used for but everyone seems to think it’s going to be pretty important. I’ve been looking online trying to find out exactly what self assessment software is used for but I still can’t get a clear explination of what it is. I’m going to have to talk with some of the other managers and see if they know.

About a week and a half ago I picked up a new video camera from Best Buy. I checked out reviews for about ten different cameras under five hundred bucks and I ended up choosing the Panasonic PV-GS320. It’s a 3CCD video camera and picks up colors like no other video camera I’ve seen for under $500. Circuit City had the GS320 on sale for $369.99, but their warranty price and service is junk. I went to Best Buy and had them do a price match for Circuit City’s price and I got a 4 year warranty from Best Buy for $99. So I got a nice 3CCD video camera, a tall tripod, a carrying case and a 4 year warranty for $540 with tax and all. That’s really the best buy I’ve seen on this camera other than buying it from eBay. The video quality from the camera is even better than I ever expected. I can’t wait until we get some sun light so I can really take it out and see what it’s made of.

Last week I had to replace my old wireless router. I had the thing for about two and a half years and it just wasnt functioning that great anymore. It was a Linksys wireless B router. I upgraded to the newest Linksys Wireless N VPN 802.11n router model WRVS4400N. This new 300mbps router is very fast when I need to transfer data between computers on my home network. I could not be happier with it.

I know that you spent really good money on your CD, and that you want to be able to listen to it while you’re working out, but sometimes the machines at the gym are louder than a construction zone. Thankfully, Quiet Headphones has a great selection of noise cancelling headphones and earbuds. With these you can hear the music that keeps you motivated to go that extra mile and not the guy on the treadmill next to you getting ready to have a coronary. It’s the only way I can think of to listen to my music, and once you try it out I’m sure you’ll agree.

My girlfriend recently got me one of those digital picture frames with the LCD display. It’s the 9 inch model and the display on it is very bright and crystal clear. I never really wanted to spend the money on myself and get a digital picture frame, but now that I see the quality, I wish i would have picked one up a long time ago. Everyone that comes over notices it sitting in our living room. Right now we have the memory stick from our digital camera in it with a bunch of pictures of our last family reunion. My girlfriend really enjoys taking pictures and that sort of thing, so I think she got the digital frame for me, just so that she could use it. Shes kind of clever like that. Anyway, I really enjoy the digital picture frame and I’m actually thinking about buying one for my brother in-law for his birthday.

I came across a new website that offers a very unique service. It’s called QlipBoard by Qlip Media. It allows you to upload pictures and record over them, to create slideshows, video blogs and much more. You can upload pictures of that new car you just purchased or that new puppy you got and tell people about it rather than typing and having them read about it. It’s a pretty interesting service and right now it’s still in beta mode so you can try it for free. I actually think it’s quite entertaining. You can even use the “mouse pen” to draw on the images if you want to point out certain things. Check it out at www.QlipMedia.com.

I’ve been using a service called “iDrive” from iDrive.com. They offer free encrypted online storage for up to 2gb, unlimited storage for a small fee of only $4.95 a month, or even cheaper at only $49.95 if you choose to pay per year. You can get their system to automatically backup data from your computer so that if your computer crashes or you cant access the data for some other reason, you have it safe and secure on your iDrive online backup. It’s actually a great service and comes in very handy. Check out their website at www.iDrive.com for more information.

Today I overheard some guys at work talking about something called a plasma cutter. I wasn’t sure what they were talking about until I came home and looked it up. Apperantly construction companies use plasma cutters to fabricate large beams and auto shops and car factories use them as well, to fabricate and design chasis and other custom parts. I guess you really do learn something new everyday.
